In yesterday’s gospel, Jesus told Peter get behind me Satan because Peter was trying to tempt Jesus away from his core identity… Christ being the Messiah, had to come and suffer – Peter called him the Messiah, but was missing the core idea of who Jesus is.
We must try to look beyond the external things in life, to answer the questions, “Who am I? and “What defines me?”
Satan speaks to us and tries to take us away from our own core identity and as we look to external things, we start to believe his lies. As we believe Satan more and more, we begin to sin more.
Rather than being caught up in a performance based value system, we should take the powerful question in the Gospel, “Who do you say that I am?” and turn to our Lord and ask him that question of ourselves. Find out who does Jesus say that I am…
