The funeral planning process can feel overwhelming and challenging, but we aim to make that process easier by helping to coordinate details during your grief.   Whether you are planning ahead or have an immediate need to plan for the funeral of a recently departed loved one, please start by contacting the parish office.

Experiencing the loss of a loved one is a sorrowful and challenging time. At Our Lady of the Lake, we are committed to offering our prayers and pastoral support to be a comforting presence for you throughout this period of grief. Please read the information below to learn more about how we can assist you in planning a Funeral Mass. 

Planning Questions and Considerations  

Who to Call: After the death of a loved one, call Fr. Peter Richards at the Parish Office, 952-472-1284. Our front desk will help you schedule a date and time for the funeral, and put you in touch with our Funeral Coordinator, Shelly Sir.

Choosing a Time and Date for the Funeral: Most often, funerals at Our Lady of the Lake are scheduled on Tuesdays through Fridays at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. If you would like to have a luncheon following the Mass, Our Lady of the Lake provides catering services through our Food Ministry and Council of Catholic Women (CCW).

Saturday and evening funerals are less common due to facility schedule constraints. Having a funeral at these times are at the Pastor’s discretion. 

Funeral Planning Meeting: After you have scheduled the funeral, you will meet with the Funeral Coordinator to select readings, music and other details for the Mass.

During the Liturgy of the Catholic Mass, God speaks to his people through the Sacred Scriptures. It is important to choose readings to bring context, allow for deeper relationship with God, and greater appreciation for the Eucharist. 
Music and hymns are also an integral and traditional part of the Mass. Music enhances the celebration of the Eucharist, allows for the expression of conviction and feelings, comforts and unifies those assembled, and reminds us of hope in Christ's victory over death.

You will fill out our Funeral Planning form on our website with the Funeral Coordinator including event information and requests at your appointment. If you wish to have information prepared prior to your meeting, we encourage you to use our Pre-Planning document linked on the Funeral Planning webpage and have ready any other pertinent information.

If you wish to include a photo of your loved one for the worship aid, bring it to the planning meeting or email a digital copy to the Funeral Coordinator.
