MUSIC NOTESStudents in grades kindergarten through eight have music in the music room two times a week.
Students in kindergarten and first grade will be learning about elements of music through games and use of classroom instruments. We will be singing, moving to the music and finding the beat. Students will also be learning about instruments from around the world. Later in the fall we will start preparing for the Christmas Program.
Students in third and fourth grade will continue learning the elements of music and will begin basic theory and note reading through the use of games, classroom instruments and recorders. They will use the Music Express magazine to discover a wide variety of music topics. Students will also be learning about instruments from around the world and starting preparation for the Christmas Program later in the fall.
Students in middle school started off with a theory pretest and will work at their level throughout the year. Rhythmic and melodic reading are taught through use of instruments with emphasis on rhythmic reading this year. Students are very excited to get on the drums. Students will also use Music Express to learn what's up in the music world and sing current pop hits.
Liturgical Choir is optional for all middle school students. It will meet in the music room on Fridays from 2:00 - 2:25.
