Ministry of Worship

"      Altar Server: Assist at weekend, holy day, funeral and wedding Masses. Rotating schedule.
"      Church Environment: Assist with creating a suitable worship environment for the different liturgical seasons of the
       church year.
"      Cross Bearer: Carry cross in procession at beginning and end of weekend Masses (7th grade through High school).
"      Eucharistic Adoration: Prayer before the Blessed Sacrament on Tuesdays from 3-9 pm. Typically one half to
       one hour is devoted to this time of prayer.
"      Eucharistic Minister: Distribute Communion at weekend/other Masses. Rotating schedule.
       Need to have received the Sacrament of Confirmation.  Teens and adults welcome.
"      General Intercessions: Volunteer to write the intercessions for weekend Masses. Guidelines provided.
"      Gift Bearers: Present the offertory gifts at weekend Masses and other liturgies.  Rotating schedule.
"      Greeter: Greet parishioners and guests at Masses and other liturgies. Rotating schedule.
"      Lector/Reader: Proclaim the Word of God at weekend and special Masses, as well as other liturgies. Rotating Schedule.
"      Liturgy Committee: Assist in preparation for major liturgical events and seasons. Bi-monthly meetings
"      Sacristans: Set up for weekend Masses and other liturgies, 15 minutes before liturgy starts. Rotating schedule.
"      Sunday Child Care: Assist in childcare during 8:30 & 10:30 am Masses and as needed. Rotating schedule.
"      Usher: Seat worshippers, distribute bulletin and other information, receive offerings at Masses, tidy-up worship space
       after liturgies. Available to assist parishioners as needed. Rotating schedule. Dick Catton
"      Worship Leaders: Lead weekday communion services and/or wake services. Special training provided. 

Ministry of Pastoral Care  Sr. Carrie Link

"      BeFriender Program: An ecumenical ministry shared by St. John’s and Good Shepherd Lutheran Churches. Training
       and on-going support provided. Individual visits are primarily to homebound parishioners.
  Meets monthly.
       Eight sessions of training required.
"      Funeral Sacristans: Prepare for funeral Masses 1 hour before the liturgy. Rotating schedule, usually daytime.
       Training provided.
"      Meditative Prayer : Labyrinth of Prayer: Invites and introduces people to a new prayer journey. Includes scheduling,
       opening/closing the indoor Labyrinth on Ash Wednesday and outdoor labyrinth once in September.
       Centering Prayer: During times of prayer, we consent to God’s presence and action within us. At other times, our attention moves        outward to discover God’s presence everywhere. This will include an introduction to centering prayer and a
       ½ hour regularly scheduled practice of this prayer at a group decided time.
"      Parish Nurse Program: Provides a resource for health and wellness information for parish families.
       Nurses needed as educational resource.
"      Prayer Ministry: A group of parishioners who take prayer requests by phone or e-mail and remember those
       in need in their personal prayers.
"      Pray for Pastor, Staff, & Parish: Remember our pastor, staff, and parish in prayers daily, weekly, monthly.
"      Presbyterian Homes: Volunteer one hour a month to take residents to Mass or personally visit and
       bring Communion to them. Opportunity also available in February or August to assist at monthly birthday celebrations
NEW  Reflection on Sunday Readings: Gather to prepare for Sunday Mass by reflecting on the scriptures for
         the upcoming Sunday. Time to be determined.
"        To: In the spirit of St. Vincent DePaul Society, this new group responds To short-term needs, a ride
         To a medical appointment,  a meal To those recovering from surgery or a family death, or other needs that
         may develop To serve those within our community.
"        Welcoming Committee: This group meets bi-monthly to provide hospitality to new parishioners.
"        Welcoming Dinner: Join with a partner to prepare and serve a meal for a small number of new parishioners at the church rectory          dining room. Guidelines provided.

Ministry of Music Desi Klempay

"      Children’s Choir: An opportunity for your child to experience the joy of music.
"      Handbell Choir: Play handbells for Saturday/Sunday Mass and other occasions.
        (Practice 5:30 pm Thursday evenings)
"      Instrumentalists: Willing to play for Sundays, special liturgies and other occasions. Please indicate musical instrument.
"      Mass Choir: Provide music leadership for Sunday in the following choirs:
"      8:30am Mass Choir (practice 7:00 pm Thursday evenings)
"      10:30am Mass Choir  (practice 9:30 am Sunday mornings)
"      Organist/Pianist: Provide musical leadership/accompaniment at various parish functions including liturgies.

All volunteers are required to have VIRTUS Training (Protecting God’s Children), provided at no cost.

Faith Formation

Elementary (Grades Pre-K through 8 Marian Bach
"      Catechist: Wednesday evenings, lesson plans and training provided
"      Catechist Assistant: Provides catechist with support, non-teaching.
"      Catechist Substitute: On Wednesdays, lesson plans provided
"      Christmas Program: Need volunteers to sew costumes, assist on day of program or help with any preliminary tasks.
"      Hall Monitors: Maintain order in halls, assist where needed
       Halloween Party: Need volunteers for community-wide celebration
"      Liturgy of the Word for Children:Lead children in age appropriate scripture readings during 10:30 Mass, two Sundays per month.
       Living Rosary: Assist in set-up
       Pre-Lenten Family Celebration: Assist with preparation and set-up.
"      Vacation Bible School: Small group leaders needed for summer event.

Junior/Senior High (Grades 9 through 12)Bryan Busch
"   NEW  Living Stations: Assist with set-up

Youth Ministry Bryan Busch
"      Chaperones for Youth Outings: Provide support for youth program by participating in youth  outings.
        Adults to accompany and help supervise youth group members on outings.
"      Drivers: Adults to help drive youth group members on outings. Would need to complete a driver license background check.
"      Fundraising: Be involved with some labor-intensive fundraising with the youth.
"      Retreat Helper: Assist with small group discussions for Confirmation students.
"      Summer Fest orMission Trip Counselor: Weeklong commitment interacting with youth in a variety of settings.
"      Youth/Adult Advisory Group: Meet periodically to plan youth events and ensure an effective youth program.
"      Youth Room Monitors:Y Adults to be in youth room when it is open after school or in the evenings as a drop-in center. 
       
May be paired with another adult. Some interaction with youth expected.

Adult Faith Formation Bryan Busch/Fr. Stan

NEW  Adult Gathering:  Any adults who are interested in planning, preparing or participating in events.
"      Alpha Team: Help prepare food or lead small groups or other tasks for this Program on basic
        Christianity and/or attend Alpha meetings as a participant.
"      Cana Couples: Married couples to prepare two or three engaged couples each year. 
       
Must be in a secure sacramental marriage.  Most couples require 4-6 hours of preparation.  Training is provided.
"      Evangelization: Our Lady of the Lake Parish invites all parishioners, families, friends, those
       searching and those on the edge, to become a
  part of the Archdiocese Evangelization Initiative as Our Lady of the Lake
       continues in the spirit of our Alpha program and the more recent Sunday night Faith Sharing programs.
       (You do not need to have attended either of the other programs to volunteer for this program.)
       Morning Brunch for Seniors: Adults interested in meeting after weekday masses for meal and faith sharing.
       M.O.M.S.: Women gathering for faith sharing and spiritual growth.
"      Parish Mission: Assist in planning or participating in our upcoming mission.
"      Purpose Driven Life: The Purpose Driven Life is a blueprint for Christian living in the 21st century –
       a lifestyle based on God’s eternal purposes, not cultural values.
  Using over 1,200 scriptural quotes and references,
       it challenges the conventional definitions of worship, fellowship, discipleship, ministry, and evangelism.
 
       
This book  will help you understand why you are alive and God’s amazing plan for you, both here and now, and for eternity.
"      RCIA Sponsors: Men and women to attend RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) classes
        with candidates for conversion to Catholicism and to establish a spiritual relationship with them.
 
       
Requires interview with RCIA director, 2-3 classes per month.  October through April.
"      Young Adult Group: For young singles who are interested in social activities with other young singles ages 20-35.

Parish Organizations, Committees and Activities

"      Altar Care: Join a team to clean altar areas, sacristy, family room and choir area.  Once or twice a year, rotating
        schedule on a monthly basis.
"      Cemetery Committee: Oversee the operation and maintenance of the parish cemetery.
"      Centennial Committee: Assist in the preparation of Our Lady of the Lake 100 year anniversary in 2009. 
"      Communications Committee:  To provide vehicles of communication to the Parish and community.

"      Council of Catholic Women:
       Provides programs of spiritual enrichment, leadership training and services to the parish and community.
       
Special projects: November Boutique,Christmas & Spring Events.  Meetings first Tues. of the month,
      
September-May. Mark active even if you only participate occasionally. 
"      Funeral Luncheon Teams: Provide food and/or serve luncheons after funerals on a rotating schedule.
       
Several times per year.  Open to men, women, & teens.
"      PennyWise Shop: This is a clothing thrift shop, open to the public, located in the Annex.
       
Volunteers sort clothing and staff the shop on Tuesday/Friday 10am-4pm, Wednesday 7-8:30pm, Sept.-May.
"      Garden/Landscape Committee: Volunteers are welcome to design, plant or assist with the planting, watering, and care of the         church gardens and grounds. Scheduling is flexible.


"      Knights of Columbus:  A fraternal Organization of men serving church & community.
"      Mailout Bulletin Assembly: Assist with the assembly of the mailout monthly bulletin.
       Meets the 3rd Wednesday of each month between 11am and 2pm in the Large Meeting Room.
"      Maintenance Committee:  Oversee the maintenance of our facilities to provide a safe environment for the parish community. 
       
Meets the 3rd Tuesday each month at 5:30 pm.
"      Office Support: Assist in preparation of weekly/monthly bulletins, mailings, clerical duties, data entry, and
       various special projects. Also, there are opportunities to attend a select ministry, take notes, prepare and 
      
distribute minutes by mail or e-mail.
"      Parish Council: The parish council discerns the will of God for our local Church, provides vision and leadership in decision making,
        solicits opinions of parishioners, acts as liaisons with other groups, participates in monthly meetings, annual retreat and
        our annual parish meeting. Meets the 4th Tuesday of the month at 7:00 pm.
  Candidates for membership determined by annual
        elections each June.
"       Incredible Festival: Join the Incredible team for the Annual Parish Festival.
        Assist with one or more of the many activities such as food booths, ticket booth, silent auction helpers,
        chicken dinner and other volunteer opportunities. Flexible scheduling.

"       Finance Committee:  Provides advice and counsel regarding the administration and financial activities of the parish. 
        
Regular meetings held on the 4th Tuesday of the Month at 7:00 am.
"       Parish Library: Library hours are 9am-12noon each Sunday. Assist parishioners to check out books and
        videos. Rotating schedule with occasional maintenance meeting. Training provided. Although the library is
        fully staffed at this time, we welcome parishioners to take advantage of this great resource in our parish. 
"       St. Theobald Society: St. Theobald gained employment as a janitor at the cathedral of St. Lawrence. He is known as the
       patron saint of Janitors. The members of the St. Theobald Society will work with our maintenance
department to meet
       additional cleaning needs throughout our parish campus.
"      Scouting Opportunities
"      Boy Scouts: OLL sponsors Troop #571. Volunteers needed to offer guidance and counsel in many different
       areas of scouting.
"      Girl Scouts: Volunteers are needed to assist existing groups and start new groups.
"      Cub Scouts:  Volunteers are needed to assist existing groups.
"      Social Justice Ministry: Identify local issues and develop action plans such as letter writing campaigns,
        phone calls, etc.
"      Stewardship/Development Committee: Promote stewardship as an act of discipleship and develop  ways to invite parishioners
        to offer their God-given gifts of time, talent & financial support for the work of Christ.
Meets monthly September through May.
"      Technology Committee/Website:    Work on e-rate program with the school.  Assist in assessment and purchase of technology
        for school and parish.
 Assist in Website design and development.Meets as needed. 
"      Vocations Committee: This committee meets quarterly to help promote vocations to religious life, priesthood
        and professional lay ministry in the church.

 All volunteers are required to have VIRTUS Training (Protecting God’s Children), provided at no cost.    

Our Lady of the Lake School
"      Alumni Committee:  Work closely with the school principal to keep current with  OLL  Alumni “happenings”; 
       
help coordinate and  assemble a quarterly newsletter.
"      Art Adventure Leader:  Partner with the Minneapolis Institute of Arts to present works of art and their meaning to OLL
        students.
  Training provided. Includes a field trip to the MIA for students to see the works they studied in the museum.
"      Field Trip Chaperone (PK-8): Go along on a field trip. Have fun, help keep track of the students and provide a safe environment.
"      Home Room Parent (PK-8): Help your child’s teacher plan parties, assist with special individual needs. 
        
A variety of projects for someone who is willing to plan and take charge, and get other parents involved.
"      Library Aide:  Check books in and out of the library.  Put books back on shelves and read stories to small groups of students.
       Training provided.
"      Parent Teacher Organization: The PTO sponsors many social activities and events.
        Volunteers are needed throughout the school year.
"      Rake-A-Thon for Non-Public Education:
  
     Volunteers needed to coordinate leaf bag pick up, serve refreshments and help rake.
"      School Advisory Committee Candidate:  This SAC committee serves as a consulting committee to the school. Membership        determined by annual election. Monthly meetings.
"      Short Term Projects: Help teachers with special units of study or other school wide projects as the need arises.
"      Teacher Aide: Provide assistance at school whenever time can be scheduled on a consistent basis.  Provide one-on-one
       remedial help, give spelling tests, run off worksheets, correct workbooks, etc.
